RNC Foundation Commemorates Human Rights Day in South Africa

Johannesburg, South Africa – 21 March 2026

The South African branch of the Rwanda National Congress Foundation (RNC Foundation), in partnership with Bophelo Pele Foundation, marked Human Rights Day with a powerful gathering of civil society leaders, NGOs, and community stakeholders.

Opening the event, the President of RNC Foundation stressed the urgent need to tackle systemic injustices, noting that “the absence of human rights and dignity continues to drive forced displacement across our continent.”

Discussions focused on human rights challenges across Africa, especially the Great Lakes region, highlighting the importance of solidarity, inclusion, and protection for displaced populations. Attendees also joined in historic struggle songs, reflecting resilience and unity in the fight for justice.

A key question posed during the event—“How can we, as South Africans, use this day to advance human rights for fellow Africans?”—sparked deeper dialogue on regional responsibility and collective action.

In closing, The RNC Foundation President thanked participants and encouraged the younger generation to draw inspiration from icons, continuing the pursuit of justice and human dignity.
